Diana Krall, Wayne Shorter et Hiromi invités du festival "Jazz à Juan"

L'office de Tourisme de la ville d'Antibes vient de dévoiler les trois premiers invités de la 53e édition de Jazz à Juan qui se déroulera du 12 juillet au 21 juillet 2013.
Le saxophoniste Wayne Shorter fêtera ses 80 ans, le 16 juillet, lors d'un concert en quartet programmé dans la Pinède. Il devrait être honoré à cette occasion par la Ville d'Antibes, comme ce fut le cas l'an dernier pour Sonny Rollins.
La célèbre diva du jazz, chanteuse et pianiste, Diana Krall, viendra également donner son troisième concert à Juan cet été (le 19 juillet).
Révélation de ces dernières années, la pianiste japonaise Hiromi foulera pour la première fois la scène du plus ancien festival de jazz d'Europe.

Diana Krall a dévoilé son nouveau visage hier soir à Jazz à Juan. La pianiste et chanteuse canadienne qui s’est fait une solide réputation en reprenant les grands standards du jazz, mâtinés parfois de bossa nova, a décidé de changer de registre sur son dernier album à la faveur d’une plongée dans l’âge d’or du jazz où elle revisite des vieux succès des comédies musicales des années 1920-1930. Une métamorphose réussie qui lui a permis de séduire une nouvelle fois les spectateurs de la Pinède Gould.

Diana Krall était hier la vedette de la huitième soirée de l’édition 2013 de Jazz à Juan. C’est la quatrième fois que la pianiste et chanteuse canadienne se produisait dans la mythique Pinède Gould, mais sa prestation de cette année était particulièrement attendue parce que, après avoir participé activement l’an dernier à l’enregistrement du disque de son idole Paul McCartney, "Kisses on the Bottom", mettant en avant un recueil de chansons du répertoire du Jazz, Diana Krall a sorti en octobre dernier un album "Glad Rag Doll" qui marque un tournant dans sa carrière. Depuis maintenant près de 20 ans, l’artiste s’était fait une solide réputation internationale dans la reprise des grands standards du jazz, de George Gershwin à Nat King Cole en passant par Cole Porter, sur lesquels son timbre voilé et son swing convaincant faisaient merveille. En 2010, lors de son dernier passage à Juan-les-Pins, suite à la sortie de son album "Quiet Nights", elle avait teinté son répertoire des chaudes couleurs de la bossa-nova avec notamment un clin d’œil à la fille d’Ipanema devenue pour elle The Boy From Ipanema.

Une plongée dans l’âge d’or du jazz

Avec son dernier opus, Diana Krall n’a pas hésité à casser ces codes établis, à la faveur d’une plongée dans l’âge d’or du jazz où elle revisite avec sensualité des vieux succès des comédies musicales des années 1920-1930, ainsi que des chansons country et blues. Mais la grande star du jazz vocal de ces deux dernières décennies, n’a pas voulu verser dans la nostalgie et, même si cet album est délicieusement vintage, Diana Krall a également, sous la houlette du producteur T.Bone Burnett qui est un proche de son mari Elvis Costello, souhaité surprendre en en faisant aussi un concentré de swing et de rock, avec des musiques inventives ancrées dans l’ère du temps. C’est donc principalement avec ce répertoire, agrémenté de quelques titres de Tom Waits et de Joni Mitchell, qu’elle a séduit hier soir les spectateurs de la pinède. Tel le papillon de l’une de ses chansons phares, la diva du jazz a parfaitement réussi sa métamorphose et ne s’est pas brûlée les ailes en allant vers le ragtime.

Friday night was saw a very happy Diana Krall (above), her children with her for this concert, playing as well and enjoying herself as much as I have ever seen her. Countless times she told us how happy she was to be here (accompanied by her twins) and how she had spent the day playing with them in the pool. This all translated into a wonderful show, that in Umbria had seemed a little distant and mechanical, but here was much more the real Diana, completely at ease and obviously enjoying herself so much.

She had even sent a message to the hoards of photographers that she was aware of the difficult circumstances of our job in this venue (the stage is only 1m high and us photographers have to kneel/crouch/sit in the stones, gravel and sand in the front of the stage) and that we should be patient and she would work with us all so we could all get a ‘good’ photograph of her, without the need for us to crawl around in front of the paying public for the prime position – which she did several times.
